Travertine is one of the most beautiful, unique and widely used natural stones. Travertine is formed when limestone is combined with hot springs and thousands of years. It is a form of limestone, and mainly consists of crystallized minerals and limestone.
Most of this amazing stone comes in light cream colours, however varying to lighter brown as well.
Its unique characteristics of colours, shades, finishes and sizes provide a warm, inviting effect both in homes and commercial situations. The uses are only limited by your imagination. Widely used in flooring, bench tops, vanity tops, bathtub surrounds, staircases, feature walls, fireplace surrounds, pool areas as well as paving. Travertine also has a natural slip resistant feature.
Its comes in a few finishes and each one has its own advantages and unique looks:
Cleaning Travertine Floor:
Same as with most other stones, travertine should be vacuumed, swept then cleaned with a neutral ph solution. Acid solutions should never be used as they can etch the stone. The cleaning methods and products used will also alter, depending whether the stone has been sealed or left in its natural state.
If the tiles have not been filled then naturally they will have small to medium holes on the surface which are the result of gases escaping as the travertine is formed. Even though these holes show the amazing natural look of travertine, they quite easily and quickly fill with dirt and dust. In most cases, these tiny holes cannot be cleaned by hand and require professional treatment. Similar cases will occur with most other types of travertine.
Tile Tech provides a professional approach and real solutions to all your travertine cleaning and restoration needs. With a wide range of equipment available, we can clean and restore any condition back to its best. This stone can be pressure cleaned at pressures up to 1200 psi considering the grout is in good order.
Sealing Travertine Floor:
Majority of this natural stone is sealed before and after installation in order to allow easier ongoing maintenance, prolong its original look and life by protecting it from stains. Previously sealed surfaces will be stripped back by Tile Tech Solutions, cleaned using correct products and pressure then sealed with at least 2 coats of a high quality penetrating sealer. This method can be applied internally or externally, horizontally or vertically.
The stone should never be sealed with uterine sealers as it does require the option to breathe after being sealed. With proper care and maintenance your newly renewed and sealed travertine will not require another treatment for up to 15 years – depending on the area of use, traffic and care.
