Limestone is a beautiful sedimentary rock composed mainly of calcium carbonate or double carbonate of calcium and magnesium.
It is formed when layers of sand and mud together with animal remains fall to the bottom of the ocean and decompose which when crushed by the water results in the formation of the rock.
Limestone itself is a fairly porous rock and can be easily scratched, fractured and etched. It is commonly used in flooring, feature walls, fireplace borders and decorative purposes. It has a sandy colour but often contains grey, brown and dark red veins, patterns through it. This makes limestone so unique where two pieces are never the same.
Cleaning Limestone Floor:
Whether limestone has been sealed (in most cases it would be) or left in its natural state, it must be swept or vacuumed on a regular basis in order to prevent dirt building up and entering the pores. It is recommended to be cleaned with neutral ph cleaners and detergents. Acid based cleaners must be avoided as over time limestone will have a negative reaction to them.
Being relatively light in colour and widely used in landscaping and paving, it will require high-pressure cleaning from time to time. The pressure should never exceed 800 psi and appropriate attachments must be used during the process. Please contact us at Tile Tech for a professional solution with all your limestone cleaning.
Our equipment can be specifically adjusted for any natural stone including limestone to provide the best possible clean and solution. Tile Tech Solutions are your specialists for limestone cleaning, stripping and sealing.
Sealing Limestone Floor:
Bare limestone has a sandy rough feel with tiny granules on the surface (unless it has been polished). It is quite easy to scratch and stain if not sealed with a proper sealer.
Limestone needs the ability to breathe even after being sealed and Tile Tech has the leading quality limestone sealers to protect and enhance this beautiful stone. It should never be sealed with synthetic sealers as these will clog up the natural pores.
Tile Tech Solutions recommends limestone be sealed with a quality penetrating sealer. This option will allow breathe, offer protection from stains, scratches, fading and it will also prolong its life. Our quality penetrating sealers have a very long life of up to 15 years. Tile Tech can also recommend and supply a suitable cleaner for your ongoing limestone maintenance so you can enjoy the magnificent looks of limestone for years to come.
Before limestone is sealed, we remove any old sealers completely, clean both the tiles and stone professionally then seal with a sealer of your choice.
